Our Big Boy
Rowanridge Maine Coon Cats

Angela withTecumseh (or is it the other way round?). We continuosly congratulate ourselves for being so clever as to obtain him from Barbara Ray from Willowplace of whom we have the highest regard. Barbara made sure we had exactly the boy we wanted. We think that is a good example to  follow. Willowplace is on our links page. Tecumseh is a year old in this picture and we will show him at various ages to give an idea of what to expect in the development of a Maine Coon toward maturity. They have a long way to grow so it can take four to five years to mature.

Tecumseh is a Brown Mackeral Tabby carrying one each of the solid gene, the classic gene and the dilute gene allowing us to produce many variations in the same litter, depending on the mom's part of course! The last three genes are recessive, requiring two of each in order for those traits to show. Tecumseh is very gentle, particularly with his kittens and he loves to retrieve. Most of his kittens do also. Truly a gentle giant, however he absolutely insists in the morning that he gets a good scratch on the chin while he purrs like a lion. He always gets his way. Note his big tail, ears and feet, which he freely passes on to his kittens.

Tecumseh is named for the great Shawnee leader of the same name, which means, delightfully enough: "Shining Panther".
The original Tecumseh is still revered in Canada as a national hero for giving his life in battle in Ontario while defending against one of the American invasions there during the War of 1812.
Our Tecumseh is the cornerstone of our program. His claim to fame is his ability to stamp his kittens with his look and size.
Tecumseh and Angela are best of buddies
